ADVOCATE FOR SLEEP ON CAPITOL HILL
DURING
NAITONAL SLEEP AWARENESS WEEK®!
Register Today!
Why?
Over 50 million of Americans suffer from sleep disorders yet a large majority of them are undiagnosed and untreated. The National Sleep Foundation has been working with patients, people affected by drowsy driving, sleep professionals, volunteers and the members of the National Sleep Awareness Roundtable to:
1. Promote sleep as a healthy behavior,
2. Raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of sleep disorders; and
3. Explain the consequences of sleep deprivation, such as workplace accidents and drowsy driving.
We need your help to educate Congress that more must be done to further sleep research, reduce the prevalence drowsy driving, and improve the lives of those with sleep disorders. Ultimately, this work will save lives.
What?
NSF will coordinate Hill visits throughout National Sleep Awareness Week® for volunteers to educate Congress about the importance of sleep, the impact of sleep disorders, and the tragic consequences of sleep deprivation, such as workplace accidents and drowsy driving.
For those advocates who wish to receive training, an educational session will be held on the morning of March 4th. NSF officers will provide a briefing on the legislative process and an overview of current priorities for sleep. Our professional government affairs team will then lead a training session on how to properly conduct meetings with policymakers. After the training session, Sleep Advocates will go to Capitol Hill where they will conduct visits. NSF will schedule the meetings and provide all necessary materials. NSF staff will be on hand to assist with the meetings as needed. A debriefing session will be held on Capitol Hill after all meetings have been concluded.
